Trip Overview

Explore the vibrant art, religion, and food culture of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and spend time with the country's leading artists and performers. From the bustling capital of Phnom Penh to the creative center of Battambang city, Cambodia boasts an abundance of sights, tastes, and sounds. On this 11-day adventure, with an optional four-day extension to the astounding Angkor Wat, we'll meet an array of local artists, farmers, chefs, and healers and learn more about both the ancient traditions they are upholding and the unique work they are pioneering to help their country recover from the Khmer Rouge genocide.

  • Visual & performing arts
  • Religion & ritual
  • Khmer foodways
  • Extension to Angkor Wat

Itineraries and daily schedules are subject to change. We expect to do everything listed in the itinerary, though the order may be rearranged based on weather or other local conditions.

Trip Leaders

Lauren Iida
Lauren Iida is a contemporary artist working between Seattle and Cambodia, where she runs art tours, writes and illustrates bilingual books for children, creates highly detailed paper-cut art depicting her experiences abroad, and continues her social practice art career. Iida is founder of The Antipodes Collective, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization creating high-quality learning materials for Cambodian children through worldwide artistic collaboration. She also oversees Open Studio Cambodia, which supports resident Cambodian emerging artists with everything from art materials to professional practices training and opportunities to exhibit. Introducing travelers into these communities allows her to combine her passion for the arts with her love for Cambodia.
Long Lavy
Originally from Cambodia's Pursat Province, Lavy spent most of his childhood just outside of Phnom Penh city. He began studying watercolor in his teens and gradually honed his skills to depict both idyllic countryside landscapes and chaotic city spaces. A former Khmer kick boxer, father of two, and tuk-tuk driver by trade, Lavy is now an important member of Open Studio Cambodia, an artist collective founded by Lauren Iida in 2018. His extensive knowledge of Cambodian culture and kind and helpful personality make any traveler feel at home in Cambodia.
