Nestled between Mount Vesuvius and the sparkling blue waters of the Mediterranean, Naples is a city of vivid beauty, intense street life, and world-famous cuisine, home to both the world’s original pizza and oldest opera house. On our culinary adventure in and around this fascinating metropolis, developed in partnership with Culinary Backstreets, we’ll be exploring various layers of cuisine and culture, using the city’s famous cooking as a window into daily life. We’ll meet artisans who keep the city fed, sample from producers of speciality products such as buffalo mozzarella, and visit vineyards and farms with the volcanic soil of Vesuvius beneath our feet. We’ll explore hidden workshops tucked into the dark alleys of the city, where a cadre of old masters practice obsolete trades like umbrella repair and sign painting. Along the way we’ll also dive deep into the spiritual side of the city, including venturing into an underground ossuary and visiting a streetside savant who’ll help interpret our dreams. And, of course, most importantly, we’ll experience the singular miracle of Neapolitan pizza.

Our partner, Culinary BackstreetsIn order to create and curate this unique experience, we’ve partnered closely with Culinary Backstreets, a global guide to local eats that publishes restaurant reviews and features on local culinary culture. They bring these stories to life on culinary tours and special events, offered in 12 cities around the world, and have extensive international experience with all things gastronomical.

Arrival & Departure

You should plan to arrive by 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 and depart anytime on Friday, October 16. We’ll provide the option of booking additional nights at our Naples hotel before and/or after the tour, and are more than happy to provide suggestions for things to do and see in the city on your own.

Activity Level

Travelers should be reasonably fit and feel comfortable walking 3 to 5 miles each day and remaining on their feet for long periods of time. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on during a couple cooking workshops.

The total cost of this trip is $2,825. A $500 deposit is required to hold your space. The deposit is non-refundable after three days. The final payment of $2,325 will be due by July 13, 2020. All reservations will be final after this date and subject to our cancellation policy. By submitting your deposit, you agree to the trip’s Terms & Conditions. For travelers wishing to have single accommodations during the trip, an additional $280 will be due at the time of the final payment.

We encourage an adventurous palate! We try our best to accommodate dietary restrictions, though in most cases ingredients can't be substituted or omitted from particular dishes. Unfortunately, due to the Napolitan palate, the itinerary isn't able to cater to gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan diets. If you have a particular food allergy or intolerance, please contact us to find out if this is the right trip for you.
