The Reopening of Turkey's Controversial Greek Orthodox Monastery

The Halki Seminary in Heybeliada, Istanbul, was first established in 1844, and was one of the top institutions for theological education in the Greek Orthodox world. The seminary trained future church leaders until 1971, when the Turkish authorities forced the school to close. Almost 50 years later, under the leadership of Father Ioann, the school is preparing to open its doors to students again.
