When you join one of our trips, we want you to have peace of mind. In response to COVID-19, we’ve:
Join us on a discovery of South Africa from the Western Cape to the lush bushveld. This is not your ordinary African safari. Starting in Cape Town, a stunningly beautiful city surrounded by mountains and vineyards and a compelling mix of trendy modern and old-world elegance. During our memorable stay in the Mother City, we’ll venture from sea to mountain top, walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela, and dive into the colorful and culturally rich Bo-Kaap neighborhood. We then travel to Johannesburg, South Africa's economic hub and a city bursting at the seams with a wealth of art, history, and culture. In Joburg, we discover a fusion of chic sophistication and rustic, inner-city vibe born of Africa's finest creative minds. We’ll explore the inner city’s street art and graffiti, where rejuvenation has exposed a vibrant urban life. It is here the continent can express itself and the results are funky, a little offbeat, and totally captivating. We’ll conclude our trip in the bush at Marataba, a privately managed section of the Marakele National Park. Maratabe is one of South Africa’s most innovative conservation models working to protect the area’s diverse flora and fauna through modern and hands-on conservation practices. Here we’ll join with an expert veterinarian team on a rhino notching experience.
The listed price of the trip is per person based on double occupancy.
You’re in good company. Solo travelers typically make up about half of our small groups. With curiosity at the center of our experiences, there’s a natural camaraderie that develops over the course of a trip. We have two options for you:
Shared Room: You’ll be matched with another solo traveler of the same gender.
Private Room: Have your own room, subject to availability, for a supplemental cost of $1,595. There are a limited number of private rooms available for this trip. After booking your trip, please request a private room when you fill out your traveler information form and we’ll add the option to your booking and final balance.
On this trip, we will stay in comfortable city hotels in Cape Town and Johannesburg. While on safari, accommodation is in canvas-sided safari tents with an en-suite bathroom (indoor shower, toilet, hot and cold running water) and outdoor lounge.
You should plan to arrive in Cape Town anytime on Day 1. You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to the group hotel. You should plan to depart from Johannesburg on the evening of Day 10. If you'd like to spend a few extra nights in the area, we'd be more than happy to recommend places to stay and things to do on your own.
Travelers should be comfortable staying on their feet for long stretches at a time and walking up to six miles over the course of a day. We'll be out and about most of each day, with time to rest at lunch and dinner.
Your participation in this trip will provide significant financial contributions to the communities we visit, directly supporting small businesses working to promote culturally diverse communities and city rejuvenation efforts. You will also be participating in wildlife conservation efforts while also enjoying dynamic and fun, yet also responsible and sustainable, safari experiences.
Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated, though in most cases ingredients can't be substituted or omitted from particular dishes. If you have a severe allergy, please contact us to find out if this is the right trip for you.
While U.S. passport holders do not require a visa for South Africa, visa requirements vary depending on traveler citizenship. Please check requirements for travel to South Africa and any countries passed through in transit. A passport is required for international travel. We recommend your passport expire at least six months after your return home.
The CDC recommends all travelers be up-to-date on all routine vaccines before every trip. Please check these recommendations and discuss them with your doctor.
