Obscura Day

Mark your calenders!

Obscura Day 2011 is Saturday, April 9th

Obscura Day is our international celebration in which people all over the world go out on one day to explore the curious places in their hometowns. We want you to join us!

We’re working hard to line up back room museum tours, expeditions to obscure spots, and visits to all sorts of hidden treasures in cities and towns around the world - Here are just a few of the events we have lined up so far:

In San Francisco - Enjoy a rare visit with the Sutro mummy collection

In New York City - Descend into the catacombs of the historic Green-Wood cemetery

In Seattle - Join an eccentric curio hunt at a 100 year old Curiosity Shop

In Los Angeles - Stay in for an afternoon salon on obscure subjects

In Paris - Explore the ruins of a Victorian-era tropical botanical garden

In Florence - Explore the macabre and beautiful La Specola anatomical museum

In London - Adventure films and cocktails in the historic Royal Geographical Society Map Room

In Naples - Explore ancient Roman catacombs

In Margate, England - Explore a mysterious shell grotto by candlelight

See the whole wonder-full list

Last year Obscura Day events took place in 80 cities and 20 countries around the world, and it was awesome. This year is going to be even better.

We’ve partnered with the fabulous people at Hendrick’s Gin to provide gin-soaked Obscura Day celebrations in ten lucky cities - stay posted for more details!

If there’s not already an Obscura Day event happening in your hometown, suggest one or host your own!
