At the beach known as Playa de Gulpiyuri, you can’t see the ocean. Located over 100 meters from the Cantabrian Sea, Playa de Gulpiyuri borders a flooded sinkhole—in the middle of a vast field. The beach appears and disappears with the tide, and at its height it stretches only 40-50 meters in length.

According to Oddity Central, underground tunnels—carved out by the salt water—funnel water into the sinkhole and onto the beach, creating miniature waves.

In 2001, the Principality of Asturias, Spain named it a natural monument.
