Anastacia's Antiques

Right around the corner from the shopping hub of South Street is Anastacia’s Antiques, filled with ornate and sometimes macabre curiosities, such as Victorian oddities and vintage medical memorabilia. 

In addition to antique furniture, lamps, and eerily chiming cuckoo clocks, the store has a plethora of ephemera from the Victorian age, ranging from postcards (some blank, some filled with memories of times gone by), repair receipts from a railyard, and other vintage pamphlets. Fans of unusual photography will love this store, as post-mortem daguerreotypes, or silver-printed photos of deceased family members popularized in the Victorian era, can be found among the store’s cases. Other objects, such as a box of vintage glass eyes, antique glass pharmaceutical bottles, and tins for medicine such as “female pills” line the walls. 

Opened in the 1990s, owners Anastacia “Stacy” Fahnestock and Scott Evans sought to create an oasis for those who appreciate a macabre Victorian aesthetic. The store has an online website, but you won’t find any objects for sale online—the store owners feel that it is imperative to experience the location and feel a connection with the object for sale before purchasing. Even if you don’t want a Victorian medical model displayed in your home, the adventure of simply perusing the strange store is worth the trip.
