The Roman Catholic church Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, executed by the architect Francesco Borromini in 1642-1660 and considered a masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture, is spectacularly unique among Roman churches largely for the unusual floorplan which fuses the straight edged Star of Solomon (symbolizing wisdom) with sections of six superimposed circles, resulting in a dazzling pattern of straight and curved surfaces seen most clearly looking into the dome and lantern, which is topped with an ice cream-like swirl on the exterior.
