The Netherlands is a very flat place. It’s so flat, its name even means “low lands.” Given the country’s low elevation, its people have taken to marking their country’s tallest things.
The Vaalserberg is about 1,058 feet (322 meters) tall, so really it’s more of a hill than a mountain. It became a tourist attraction after a monument was erected atop it, honoring its noteworthy height. The mountain is also home to the three-country point, which marks where the borders of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany meet.
