Sales Manager, Trips & Experiences

Atlas Obscura is seeking a Sales Manager to join our growing Experiences team. Rooted in our mission to inspire curiosity about our incredible world, Atlas Obscura Experiences bring the world’s hidden wonders to life through live online events, courses, and multi-day trips. In just the past year, we’ve delighted tens of thousands of AO community members with our new online experiences and launched a rapidly growing online courses business. As travel resumes, we plan to quickly expand our Trips business while continuing to build on the success of our online experiences and courses. Working closely with both our Guest Experience Manager and our Director of Growth Marketing, the Sales Manager will be responsible for sales of our trips, experiences, and courses. They’ll help develop a process for managing and effectively following up on leads; respond to inbound inquiries and proactively reach out to qualified potential customers; and build relationships with key partners such as travel agents and distribution platforms for trips and experiences. As the first person in a dedicated sales role on a quickly growing team, the Sales Manager will contribute significantly to the growth of a rising travel and experiences business. 

  • Develop a process for managing and effectively closing leads
  • Establish and track relevant KPIs
  • Respond to inbound inquiries for Atlas Obscura trips
  • Proactively reach out to qualified potential customers
  • Build and manage relationships with key partners including travel agents
  • Work with distribution platforms for trips and experiences to increase demand for trips, experiences, and courses
  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in trip sales
  • Intuitive interpersonal skills and an ability to quickly build strong relationships 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience developing and managing a sales process
  • Entrepreneurial instincts, a healthy sense of humor, and a passion for Atlas Obscura’s mission of finding and exploring the world’s hidden wonders

Preference given to candidates with: 

  • Experience selling both small-group and private travel
  • Travel competitor and destination knowledge
  • Existing relationships with travel agents and platforms for trips and experiences
