About

Created to resemble the fluke of a whale, these "aquileans," which is a portmanteau made from the Latin words for "whale" and "eagle," were installed at the newly built Juneau cruise port and Seawalk in 2017.

Each of the 10 stainless steel sculptures weighs around 1,500 pounds and is about 20 feet tall. They are installed atop the dolphin moors that cruise ships use to tie up to. These large and unusual looking sculptures also light up at night with 4 LEDs shone on them, which can be programmed to be all different colors. They were made by hand and took almost two years to build.
