Lake Arareko is a lake high in the Sierra Madre Occidental range, within Chihuahua state in northwestern Mexico. The lake is U-shaped. It is surrounded by unusual rock formations, and a fragrant pine forest.

Arareko lacks all that means comfort, but he does not need it. Its hiding place at the point between Creel, Divisadero and Piedra Volada. Despite this, its lovely lake, its magnificent waterfall, its two valleys of dense forests and a Jesuit mission that surrounds it, still make the Tarahumara and anyone standing on its ground have the spirit to look up and marvel at this site which concentrates everything that can be seen along the Copper Canyon.

Its name derives from the rarámuri pronouncement for the horseshoe, but its landscapes also sprinkled with springs, flowery fields and natural lookouts evoke the gratitude to arrive at site of celestial image. Its location, eight kilometers south-west of Creel, also seems inaccessible, and its offer, taking into account that only offers cabins without cell phone coverage, television and Internet, but overlooking the lake and the stars, will result lean for some.

Local People said that the last decade the lake was cursed by a brujo from another town, which was ordered by people who was envious by the rising tourism in the lake. So they say the curse brought bloody deaths to the area related to drug war, and the lake started to get dry and was almost imposible to navigate in it… and the solution was to gather together all the catholic priests and raramuri wise men to clean the lake through praying and rites.
