Crown Point Bridge

The 2000 ghost flick "What Lies Beneath" stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. It’s the story of a woman who is sure that her house is possessed, although she’s confused as to whom or why would be doing such a thing.

The movie takes place in Vermont, and most of the exteriors were filmed there. The house where much of the movie takes place was specially constructed by the film makers in D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) State Park in Addison, VT, and was torn down after filming.

Another central location was Crown Point Bridge, an 80-year-old, 184-foot span that connected Vermont and New York over the southern end of Lake Champlain. It was on this bridge (and its facsimile back in the studio) where the climactic scene of What Lies Beneath takes place.

The Vermont end of the Champlain Bridge was located at Chimney Point, an unincorporated site within the town of Addison. However, for safety reasons, in December of 2009, they destroyed the half-mile bridge in a large controlled explosion. A new bridge was constructed in 2011.
