This station was constructed by Russian prisoners in 1915 for the German army to transport weapons and ammunition through Belgium. The original station won the award for the Most Beautiful Train Station in Belgium in 1938. In 1944, the station was bombed and completely destroyed.
The station continued servicing passengers until 1957. It was then used for freights until it completely closed in 1998. After its closure, the Belgian railway stored several trains and wagons in the station until 2012. Today, visitors will find several impressive urban graffiti pieces and many many broken windows.
Know Before You Go
Their is still an active train line near the station, so please be careful.
