Created by sculptor Joseph Pollia, this sculpture depicts an American soldier who just returned from the battlefields of France during World War I. A young schoolboy stands next to the soldier, listening intently to his every word. Inscribed on the statue are the words, It Shall Not Be Again, calling for peace around the world. This statue also made an appearance in the fifth episode of Castle Rock.
The statue sits in the center of a small quadrangle park where other war memorials, and a flagpole, adorn the small green space. There are also several benches to sit on.
The statue is located only a short block walk away from a surviving temperance fountain.
Know Before You Go
There is some parking along the side of the quadrangle where the statue sits.
