Spud chunkin’ is a strangely satisfying sport, especially when paired with a glass of wine.

Stop by the Varick Winery on weekends for a chance to launch produce at over two dozen painted targets alongside growing grape vines. Other vegetables, including apples and pumpkins, are available for chuckin’ seasonally, tapping into the decades-long tradition of weekend-long pumpkin chuckin’ festivals that occur in places like Clayton, New York, Ellicottville, New York and Centre County, Pennsylvania.

While the shots are harder than they look, chuckin’ is an activity that can be enjoyed by folks of all athletic levels. And for the skilled marksman, take aim at the basketball hoop in the center of the field—successful shooters win a free bottle of wine.

The winery also includes additional amenities beyond slingshotting, including picnic areas overlooking the Northwest shores of Cayuga Lake.
