At Atlas Obscura, we strive to tell the stories of the incredible world we all share. As a community of wanderers and explorers, curiosity is at the core of what we do. Now, Atlas Obscura is partnering with Nature and PBS Digital Studios for Untold Earth, a new digital video series dedicated to exploring the mysteries behind North America’s strangest and most unique natural wonders.

Each short episode will focus on a single unique phenomenon, and make complex concepts clear, in the voices of the people who understand them best—from scientific experts to local people, the ones most directly impacted by climate change and our rapidly shifting ecosystems. Check out the trailer for some of the amazing places we’ll be taking you.

The first episode will visit the iconic redwoods of Northern California—the largest trees in the world. Despite having survived thousands of years of floods, tsunamis, and fire, California redwoods are now newly threatened by drought and rising temperatures. In this episode we’ll meet some of the people who are working to saving the redwoods by cloning them and making sure they will have a foothold in places where they will thrive for years to come.

Be sure to join us for this journey, which will show you spirit bears, chocolate-colored waterfalls, and more!
