A few different legends surround this pond in Victoria Park. Most center on the rumor that the small body of water is bottomless, but others are about the name itself.

One is that there was pirate treasure buried there, and an excavation to find it went so deep that they could barely see the sky. Then, as many know from digging too deep right next to a large body of water, the Gulf went pouring in from the side, making the pond that’s there today.

There are a couple of urban legends about someone being murdered and tossed into the pond, giving it its name.

There was one about the pond connecting to a spirit who would pull any who got too close under the water, then spit their bodies back up as a warning.

Beyond legends, there are also spotted salamanders around the pond.
