About

Standing over eight feet tall and weighing 19,000 pounds on a granite base with his powerful signature left jab poised, the “Easton Assassin” is now in Downtown Easton’s Scott Park. The bronze statue of one of the all-time boxing greats dots a scenic view of the waterfront.

The statue is of Easton’s most beloved resident and former heavyweight boxing champion, Larry Holmes. The street where the statue is located also happens to be named after the boxing great. The imposing statue was placed between Holmes Drive and the Lehigh River and across the street from two buildings that also bear the heavyweight champion’s namesake.

Holmes held the heavyweight championship from 1978 until 1985 with a career record of 69-6, which included a whopping 44 knockouts. He made 20 successful title defenses placing him third all-time. The statue was unveiled on December 13, 2015, with Holmes in attendance.
