A lone oak tree rises out from the waters of Milarrochy Bay, on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond. It is located in one of Scotland’s first national parks, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Though it is less sturdy than its neighbors further from the water, the tenacious little tree with its twisted roots has managed to survive for many years. Depending on water levels, the tree is sometimes submerged beneath the surface.
In 2020, the Milarrochy Oak was a finalist for the title of Scotland’s Tree of the Year, an annual competition put on by the Woodland Trust.
