Szczepan Mucha's Wooden Sculptures
Szałe, Poland
Disturbing works of outsider art, carved from whole logs.
“It is obvious at the first glance that these sculptures are not genial or amiable. No wonder; they were created out of bitterness, anguish and detestation of his neighbours. He would place them in front of his house – black statues, the whites of their eyes so very intense” -Aleksander Jackowski
The unusual sculptures of artist Szczepan Mucha are carved from single logs, often ornamented only with a dark stain and white eyes.
The artist’s house and many of his works are located at the Sieradz Ethnographic Park. More of his work can be found nearby at the Sieradz Regional Museum.
