About

A bridge overlooking a scenic waterfall along the Pequabuck River in Connecticut, commemorates the life and legacy of Ted Knight.

Born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka in Terryville, a section of Plymouth, Knight served in the Army before becoming the host of a kiddie-show in Providence, RI, from 1950 to 1955. Not long after, he moved to Hollywood getting a part as a prison guard in the movie Psycho.

He had many small roles on TV shows throughout the 1960s and 1970s before landing his signature role as the arrogant newsman Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The same year the show ended, Knight was diagnosed with cancer. Despite his battles, Knight was able to play the role of Judge Smails in the movie Caddyshack before his death in 1986. The following year, the town of Plymouth dedicated the bridge to his memory and installed a plaque with his likeness along the crossing. The bridge also has a gorgeous view of the Horseshoe Falls.
